Accent Tables

Cocktail Tables for the Happy Hour

by guestpost on June 11, 2010

Now here is a versatile piece of furniture: the cocktail table. It comes in every size, height and material. Some even come in three, the nesting tables. Perfect for the cocktail hour! They do not take much space. If, on the other hand, you prefer a low table large enough for everyone to put their drinks down when sitting in the living room that works as well. But the low cocktail tables also turn into cluttered surfaces if you are not careful. Make sure the material you choose when purchasing will suit your needs.  For instance, a glass surface might not be ideal if you have a dog that loves to sniff and lick any surface with its wet nose.

By its very definition, an occasional table is only used from time to time, meant to fill a need but not a piece of furniture that you have to have. To get the most out of your money for an occasional table, you have to make sure that you can use it in a number of different locations and for a wide variety of uses. If you have carried the same basic theme throughout your home, the table should be able to move from room to room. However, if the rooms are all different in style and statement, you can still adapt your table to the new room with a little change in the table scarf and other accents that blend the table into the room perfectly.

End Tables Display Style

by guestpost on March 1, 2010

End tables, almost like coffee tables, are placed beside your main pieces of seating furniture such as sofas and couches. They are very important aesthetic and functional pieces of furniture that display style and craftsmanship. Depending on your home décor, you can choose an end table made from wood such as cherry or teak, which are heavy and sturdy. Tabletops made of glass and marble look elegant. These tables come with feet that are “S” shaped, shaped like spider feet, curved or straight. End tables can be veneered in order to mimic the reddish brown color of cherry or golden brown color of teak.  If you have pets or children in the house, make sure that you place the tables along the walls.

If you have an accent table or are looking at purchasing one but aren’t quite sure what to do with it, here are a few tips.  First, think about the kind of accent tables you want or have.  Is something simple in your taste or do you like more elaborate designs?  Accent tables that are very ornate or beautiful work well for display of another beautiful piece of home decoration.  This includes vases, small sculptures, antique books, houseplants and flower arrangements.  Simple accent tables can also work as a display element but often get overshadowed by a very ornate decoration.  These simpler accent tables can work well as functional pieces where you can set drinks or books.  If you want to make an accent table look more elaborate than it is, you can cover it with a decorative piece of fabric or lace.  This looks great underneath a houseplant in a beautiful pot.  Longer accent tables look fantastic with a collection of antique books supported by decorative bookends.  This is a wonderful detail to a living room or office area.  Accent tables also make great places to display your favorite framed photos.  Very well designed, beautiful accent tables do not necessarily need anything on top of them at all, looking great beneath a mirror or painting hung on the wall.  There are so many uses for accent tables that you’re sure to find the perfect way to utilize yours.
